Drinking Water Systems Inventory Report Available

EPA drinking water regulations sometimes only affect larger water systems, or they only pertain to surface water or ground water. For these reasons, you may want to know how many people your water utility serves or where your drinking water comes from. Furthermore, knowing the source of your drinking water will help you decide which filter is right for you.

This information is summarized in the National Public Water System Supervision Program Annual Compliance Report, dated August 1997. The report summarizes information from the 175,000 public water systems in the U.S. that serve approximately 250 million people. Each water system is classified in the report according to the number of people it serves, the source of its water, and whether it serves the same customers year-round or only on an occasional basis.

The report is available on-line.
