U.S. Drinking Water Contaminant Standards
National Primary Drinking Water Standards Do
you want to know what drinking water pollutants EPA currently
regulates? We have compiled a complete list of the 79 currently
regulated drinking water contaminants. The list shows the
maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) permitted in drinking water,
as well as the potential health effects and sources of each
contaminant.
National Secondary Drinking Water Standards
Does your water smell or look bad? Follow this link to a list
of the 15 contaminants that can cause odor and aesthetic problems
in drinking water. EPA has established advisory maximum contaminant
levels to protect the public from water that could be unpleasant
to drink.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
EPA's Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water
Would you like to learn more about how EPA develops drinking
water regulations or become involved in the process? Follow
this link to EPA's OGWDW, the division that protects drinking
water. The OGWDW proposes and implements drinking water regulations
and works with states, water suppliers, and others to help
ensure that Americans have safe water to drink. On the OGWDW
web site, learn about the Safe Drinking Water Act, the regulations
that implement it, and other programs that support it. The
web site has links to public drinking water supply programs
and source water protection programs.
"Water on Tap: A Consumer's Guide to the Nation's
Drinking Water" Would you like an EPA report
that talks about the quality of U.S. drinking water safety?
This is a free, 23-page report that provides this information
in plain English. The report is available to read on-line;
to download in Adobe PDF format; or to order by phone or mail.

like to know where your drinking water comes from? On EPA's
watershed web site, learn where your drinking water comes
from by locating your watershed on your state's map! Learn
about local groups and organizations that are active in protecting
your watershed, and access environmental data about your watershed.

American Water Works Association
Do you want to link to an organization that is dedicated to
the improvement of drinking water quality and supply? The
AWWA web site contains a plethora of information on clean
drinking water: technical and educational publications, educational
programs and events, safe water programs, and government affairs.
Water Quality Association Do you want to link
to an organization that helps consumers identify companies
in the household, commercial, and industrial water quality
improvement industry that maintain high standards in the products
they sell? The WQA can lead you to companies that have demonstrated
professional expertise in water treatment. Their web site
contains consumer information such as matching water treatment
options to your individual needs.
National Sanitation Foundation Are you interested
in linking to the organization that certifies water treatment
products such as OMNIFilters? The NSF is committed to protecting
public health and the environment and develops standards for
industry to meet this goal. On the NSF web site, learn which
water treatment products are certified by NSF, read a consumers'
guide to drinking water treatment units, or see a listing
of NSF-certified faucets.
Natural Resources Defense Council Would you
like more general information on your drinking water and the
environment? The NRDC works to restore the integrity of the
elements that sustain life air, land, and water
through research, advocacy, litigation, and public education.
Their web site contains several useful reports on drinking
water quality to help you make informed decisions about your
